Project Summary

Denmark is scaling up its support to regional economic integration in East Africa. The support focuses on three components: 1) EAC Partnership Fund; 2) Trade Mark East Africa (TMEA) – regional window; and 3)‘Business across Borders (BizAB). The programme will focus on full completion of the Customs Union, as well as implementation of the Common Market Protocol. These are the areas of EAC integration promising most interms of economic growth. Successful support to EAC economic integration has specific challenges that need to be recognised in programme implementation – key issues include empowerment of the EAC Secretariat and how to persuade partner countries of the benefits of deeper integration.
